Looking for something special? Prepare to meet the new Ford Bronco
Ford had the auto industry buzzing earlier this year when it made several huge announcements at the North American International Auto Show, the biggest of which being that the Ford Bronco will be making its long-awaited return in 2020. While few details have been released, it seems clear that the new and improved Bronco will be well worth waiting for and here we will take a closer look at what you can expect.
The new Bronco will be a significant departure from the full-size model made famous by OJ Simpson over 20 years ago, as the 2020 Bronco appears set to employ the same mid-size frame currently used by the European Ford Ranger. For comparisons sake, all versions of the European Ranger showcase a 126.8” wheelbase and a 73.2” wide body, so you can expect almost identical specs from the 2020 Bronco.
Two doors or four?
While there has been no confirmation yet as to whether the new Bronco will be available as a two-door, four-door, or both, Ford’s recent acquisition of the company that makes the two-door Troller T4 has caused a frenzy of speculation that the Bronco may follow a similar design. However, industry insiders claim that North American markets will most likely see a Bronco very similar to the Ford Everest currently available in Australia, which means that you can expect a 4-door SUV that can do just about anything.
Ford has confirmed very little in regards to what will be under the hood of the new Bronco; however, if recent history is anything to go by it is fair to assume that it will be powered by either a 4 or 6 cylinder turbocharged engine. A diesel option is also considered highly likely, while an increasing demand for hybrid vehicles makes it more than possible that a hybrid version of the 2020 Ford Bronco may well be available.
The 2020 Bronco will be just as comfortable cruising along the highway as it is heading off-road, thanks in large part to the inclusion of solid rear axles, a body-on-frame construction, and a ‘shift-on-the-fly’ 4x4. An upgraded suspension system is also expected to be available for those who are a little more serious about their off-road adventuring.
The 2020 Ford Bronco most likely won’t make its first appearance until sometime in 2019 when it is tipped to be unveiled at a major International Auto Show. This means that it will probably be available to the general public in late 2019 or early 2020.
