Hardening aluminum alloy through heat-treating produces greater strength. Working with aluminum alloy also allows engineers to increase gauge (or thickness) where needed to achieve extra strength without increasing weight. The stronger F-150 weighs up to 700 pounds less than the previous generation, resulting in greater power-to-weight ratio, enhanced fuel efficiency, plus higher max payload and tow ratings that are best-in-class*. The fully boxed frame is made of more high-strength steel (up to 78 percent at 70,000 psi) and larger cross sections than frame in the previous generation. And while stronger and more rigid, this frame is also lighter by up to 60 lbs. (27 kg) because many of the components are fabricated using the state-of-the-art roll-forming process that minimizes weight.
Shifting into four-wheel drive is as easy as turning a dial with the electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system. ESOF lets you choose between two 4-wheel-drive modes (4x4 low or high) as well as 2-wheel drive. LARIAT, King Ranch™ , Platinum, Limited and Raptor models also include an automatic 4WD mode. The FX4 Off-Road Package includes electronic-locking rear differential (locks the rear axle completely for enhanced traction at both wheels) , Hill Descent Control™ , off-road tuned shock absorbers, skid plates, and “FX4 Off-Road” decal. Plus, the available 360-degree camera with split-view display is helpful when you’re manoeuvring in tight spaces and on off-road trails..
F-150 Raptor can take on the most unforgiving terrain a truck can set its tires on through. Today’s leaner and meaner Raptor is nearly 500 pounds (226 kg) lighter than the previous generation with its high-strength, military-grade, aluminum body plus high-strength, fully boxed steel frame. Power is supplied by a twin-turbo, dual-direct and port fuel-injected 3.5L EcoBoost® with 10-speed automatic delivering a massive 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Extreme off-road capability comes courtesy of features such as the TORQUE-ONDEMAND® transfer case and FOX Racing Shox™. For a conventional 4-wheeler, this kind of off-roading is off limits. For the Raptor, it’s a routine day of play.

Big improvements: Ford-first port fuel and direct injection (PFDI) with two injectors per cylinder—one in the air intake port and another inside the cylinder—to improve power and efficiency. All-new twin turbos for greater on-demand power. A more responsive plus high-end-efficient 10-speed transmission.
How does the 2.7L EcoBoost® deliver impressive performance and capability*, with power ratings of 325 horsepower and a jaw-dropping 400 lb.-ft. of torque? The answer: features like Ford-first port fuel and direct injection (PFDI) with two injectors per cylinder (one in the air intake port, another inside the cylinder), plus upper block and cylinders made of the same high-strength compacted graphite iron used in the Super Duty® 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel. And as for strength, the 2.7L EcoBoost powered an aluminum-alloy body F-150 prototype competed in the 2013 Baja 1000, finishing the race with needing just an air filter replacement. Afterwards, engineers drove that street-legal F-150 back to Michigan.
With responsive power and capability*, the new 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 can handle the demands of everyday jobs. The twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) opens/closes the valves in precise duration to suit operating conditions, so power output is optimized at every point across the performance band. The 3.3L also has the Ford-first port fuel and direct injection system (PFDI): two injectors per cylinder, one mounted in the air intake port and another positioned inside the cylinder. The 6-speed automatic transmission has three selectable modes to suit the driving condition: Normal, Tow-Haul, and Sport.
This legendary Ford V8 delivers even more muscle than ever and delivers a best-in-class payload*. Experience robust 395 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, thanks to twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) and new direct-injection (DI). Ti-VCT optimizes performance across the entire power band to match driving conditions. DI injects gas at high pressure directly and precisely into each cylinder, extracting as much power as possible from every drop of fuel. The 5.0L offers a CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package for conversion to compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane autogas**. A Snow Plow Prep Package is also available.
The Baja-bred F-150 Raptor is perfectly at home on a typical paved road. But going from mild to wild on the most unforgiving terrain – now we’re in the territory where the Raptor excels with its extraordinary capability, beginning with raw power. Unique to the Raptor is a twin-turbo, intercooled DOHC 24-valve, 3.5L EcoBoost® with port fuel and direct injection system and 10-speed automatic. This high-output EcoBoost generates a massive 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque—more power than the previous 6.2L V8. Raptor is also equipped with selectable terrain management modes: Normal, Baja, Rock Crawl, Sport, Mud-Sand, and Wet-Snow.
F-150 EcoBoost® and V8 engines deliver their power through an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. Compared with the 6-speed gearbox it replaced, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance, with enhanced acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band. Features include optimized wide-span gear spacing coupled with drag-reduction actions plus three overdrive gears. What’s more, you can choose from selectable modes: Normal, Tow-Haul, Snow-Wet, EcoSelect, and Sport.
Auto start-stop technology is now a standard feature on all F-150 engines. When you come to a stop, the engine shuts off to save fuel and restarts immediately when the brake is released. The class-exclusive* available remote tailgate release lets you lock or unlock the tailgate with the key fob or inside door switch. Release the tailgate with the key fob, too. The available 360-degree camera with split-view display uses four cameras – one in the grille, tailgate, and under each of the sideview mirrors. The system enables you to see all sides of the truck by stitching the images together and displaying them on a centre stack screen. It’s useful when manoeuvring in tight spaces and on trails. Also helpful is the included hitch assist feature that provides a dynamic sight line to help direct your hitch ball to the trailer receiver.
Available BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) signals you in the outside mirror when a vehicle is detected in a blind spot — and provides coverage for the truck you’re driving as well as the trailer you’re towing*. The cross-traffic alert feature can detect a vehicle passing behind when you’re slowly backing out of a driveway or parking place.
Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology allows you to set a cruising speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. When activated, the stop-and-go feature automatically accelerates and brakes your truck while maintaining your pre-set distance. The stop-and-go technology can bring your vehicle to a complete stop in stopped traffic and resume as traffic begins to move*.
Available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection106 adds to a suite of driver-assist technologies that can make your drive safer for both you and the world around you. If the system’s sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of you, a warning flashes on the windshield and an audible alert sounds. The brakes will also precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you brake. If the driver does not take corrective action and a collision is imminent, brakes can automatically apply.
The driver-activated Lane-Keeping System can alert you to unintentional lane drifting*. Choose the lane-keeping alert mode that vibrates the steering wheel when you drift too close to a lane marker — or the lane-keeping aid mode that activates a directional steering torque to help guide you back to the centre of the lane. Or combine the effects of both modes: continue drifting after the steering torque is activated and the steering wheel adds the vibrating sensation.
